Public Speaking – 2nd to 3rd Grade August Session

Course Description The ability to give an effective verbal presentation is an important skill that will be called upon many times in life. To feel confident, to enjoy speaking with and before others increases a child’s chances of being regarded as knowledgeable, capable, and in command. This course will instill in children a sense of  power and joy of purposive communication. It will introduce techniques for writing and delivering interesting, animated speeches. General topics include making introductions, quick-pick speeches, writing a speech, and speaking techniques.

Public speaking encourages lively participation in each activity and focuses on the kinds of exercises that are fun and helpful for young children. The summer course will help the students  prepare speeches ranging  from formal, research-based presentations to casual retellings of personal experience. The lessons will cover a wide variety, from interpersonal and intrapersonal communication to impromptu speaking, storytelling, and non-verbal

As the children become skillful and confident in public speaking, they will want to use these skills themselves. This course will provide many fun and interesting opportunities for them to explore their possibilities.
