|Course Description||In this course, fourth grade students will read the #1 New York Times bestselling and Newbery Award-winning novel The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. Students will read independently throughout the week, completing vocabulary activities, comprehension questions, and brief writing assignments for homework. Ms. Aliza will lead classroom discussions that explore themes, similes, metaphors, characterization, and other literary devices, with the goal of understanding how these devices contribute to the work as a whole. Through such guided conversations, students will learn how to evaluate literature thoughtfully and systematically. There will be various writing assignments incorporated throughout the semester.|
