2nd Grade Reading and Writing 英文精读与写作



Course Description The program is designed for 2nd grade students which allows them to closely read and analyze age-appropriate classic literature. In these classes, students will study these literature thoughtfully and critically, pick up significant details and identify patterns, and develop a deep and precise understanding of the form, craft, and meaning of a text. Our highly experienced teacher then trains the students to incorporate what they learned from close reading into their own writing.
Teacher Ms. Kristy from Brighter Bee Academy

Ms. Kristy has dreamed about being a teacher ever since she was a young girl. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Special and General Education from St. Thomas Aquinas. Ms. Kristy has been working with special needs children for four years prior to joining The Waldo School in Jersey City in 2018. Ms. Kristy loves working with the IB curriculum because she believes learning should be fun and meaningful for each of her students, with connections to the real world. She aims to push her students to think critically about the world around them and be inspired to take action and make a difference. Along with being a teacher, Ms. Kristy enjoys coaching the cheerleading team at The Waldo School to help students work on their motor and coordination skills.

13 sessions from September to December (Class will take place on 11/23 during Thanksgiving week.)

Course Objectives
  • Retell, in sequence, the important details from the beginning, middle, and end of each story
  • Identify the main events in story, and explain why with answers that reflects logical thinking
  • Understand the authors’ message and purpose of writing the story, and support his/her conclusion with details
  • Apply new vocabulary, phrases and writing techniques to their own writing
