  • Description

Course Description “海底世界” contextualizes Chinese language learning in a series of real-world science discoveries and art projects. It taps into technology to create an interactive and immersive marine adventure, where Chinese language serves as a medium of acquiring knowledge and communication. Acting as marine scientists, kids will investigate common ocean creatures, build their profiles, and “publish” a Chinese non-fiction book about marine ecosystems at the end of the eight sessions. Extended concepts like “food chain” and “environmental protection” will be introduced as well. Games, animations, singing, and role-plays will help activate multisensory learning.

Curriculum objectives: Students are able to

  • name common ocean creatures and their habitats in Chinese
  • draw and describe a basic marine food web, using the syntax “… 被 … 捕食。”
  • explain how some ocean creatures inspire significant human inventions
  • create slogans that articulate how to protect ocean creatures
  • match Chinese characters with the characteristics of common ocean creatures and related human inventions’’
